    General Privacy Policy

This first section applies to all visitors to GasPredictor.com. Please see below for additional special information for subscribers, for those submitting gas saving tips, or for those who wish to submit articles on saving gas.

In addition to complying with CAN-SPAM and other applicable laws, and the rules of common decency, we adhere to the standards of IDontSpam.com. Anywhere you see this seal, you can click to see how well we rate in our demonstrated commitment to treat your private information with the respect it deserves.

    Brief Summary:

    • We respect your privacy
    • We're not going to rip you off
    • We do not share your information with anyone else unless required by law
    • "Affiliate Programs" in which we participate may collect information about you when you click on their links, but we do not have access to that information. Please check the privacy policies of any site you go to after clicking a link here.

    Important Information about Affiliate Programs

We participate in several advertising programs which we will collectively call "Affiliate Programs." This includes links on the GasPredictor.com Web pages which are served by advertising carriers and third-party vendors. When you click on an advertisement on these pages, the advertiser will attempt to send a "cookie" to your computer. The entire purpose of these "cookies" is to make sure that we get credit for any purchase you make after going to the advertiser's site. There's nothing pernicious about it. We make reasonable effort to ensure that we participate only with reputable "affiliate" and advertiser programs that will comply with all relevant privacy laws and that will not use your information in an inappropriate manner. Please be aware, once you leave our site, you must check the privacy policy of the advertiser's site, as you are now subject to their rules.

    Examples of these third-party advertisements:

    • Google AdSense ads, all marked prominently as advertisements
    • Links to specific products sold on Amazon.com and other third-party vendors
    • Other offers of products or services which we may provide in the future

Except as described for "Affiliate Programs," we do not collect any private information without your knowledge. The only private information that may be collected here is your name and/or e-mail address which you may enter on our Contact Form. If you do not send us a message on our Contact Form, or if you send a message but do not request a reply, we do not have any private information about you. If you subscribe to our newsletter, you enter a good deal of private information on PayPal's secure site, and some of that is transmitted to us via e-mail.

If you choose to give us your name and/or e-mail address because you requested a reply, we use that information only to reply to your inquiry. We do not share this information with anyone. We do not send any unsolicited communications to you. We do not retain your e-mail address longer than needed to reply to your inquiry. We may retain your comments and the "screen name" you provide, if you have given us permission to use your comments, and we may later publish those comments and your "screen name" on our Web site.

Some Internet marketing experts say we're throwing money away by not using our contacts as a list of targets for additional sales promotions. We think your privacy and your dignity are more important than our marketing success, so we will not treat our visitors and subscribers as milk cows, no matter what the Internet marketing experts say. If you think an Internet business ought to be able to succeed without abusing its visitors, please support our efforts by subscribing to our newsletters, or by clicking on some of the advertisements you see on our pages and buying some of the products offered through our pages.

    Subscribing to our Newsletters

If you subscribe to our e-mail Gas Predictor newsletters, you must enter information on PayPal's secure server, which is subject to PayPal's privacy policies. In the case of a free subscription, you enter your information only on our site, but the information is a good deal less sensitive. (We don't ask for your credit card number, for instance.)

When you complete your transaction on PayPal, PayPal sends us an e-mail to notify us of your subscription. It includes non-personal information, such as the payment amount and the product ID that you ordered (e.g. "Atlanta Newsletter"). It also includes your name and e-mail address, which we, of course, handle as sensitive personal information.

We use this information only to fulfill your subscription. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your private information with anyone.

We use a third-party mass e-mail service to send your newsletters, and we have chosen them carefully. Their policies indicate that they also protect your private information, and nobody besides us can access "our" e-mail list (it's really your information, but it's our list).

And again, we use these e-mail addresses only to send your newsletters. We do not try to sell you anything else, and we do not pummel you with reminder notices when your subscription is about to expire. We send you two friendly reminders, and we leave it at that.

    Submitting Gas Saving Tips

If you submit one or more gas saving tips to GasPredictor.com, the same General Privacy Policies described above apply to you. However, since the process of submitting tips requests additional information from you, we need to spell out exactly how we will use that information.

    • By submitting a tip to GasPredictor.com, you grant us nonexclusive and worldwide permission to publish your tip on our Web site. We may choose not to publish it, or not to publish it right away, but you have granted us that right.
    • By submitting a "screen name," which may or may not be your real name, you grant us the right to publish that name on our Web site by way of attribution. If we choose to publish your tip, we will include the attribution, "Submitted by {screen name}" If you enter your real name, or an otherwise identifiable screen name, be aware that you have given us permission to publish it on our Web site. We suggest that you not use enough of a real name to invite identity theft. For example, "Bill from Buffalo" is not likely to cause problems for you. In any case, we will not use your screen name in any inappropriate manner.
    • You may optionally include your Web site address with your tip. If so, we may choose to make your "screen name" a clickable link to your Web site. The intent here is to allow you to use your submission of tips as a way to gain exposure and traffic to your Web site. We offer this option as a service to you.
    • You may optionally include your e-mail address, and you may check the "Acknowledgement Requested" box. If so, we will not publish this e-mail address, but we will use it to let you know when and if we have published your tip. After that acknowledgement has been sent, we will not retain your e-mail address, and we will not use it for any purpose other than to send the acknowledgement that you requested.

    Submitting Gas Saving Articles

If you submit one or more gas saving articles to GasPredictor.com, the same General Privacy Policies described above apply to you. However, since the process of submitting articles requests additional information from you, we need to spell out exactly how we will use that information.

You may not be aware, but by submitting an article to GasPredictor.com, you are entering into the world of "article marketing." For a description of what article marketing is, and how it can increase traffic to your Web site, see FreeLanceSubmit.com for an excellent explanation.

Also, by submitting an article to GasPredictor.com, you are, in effect, joining our informal "author's community." As of now, there is no real structure - no login, no author's biography page, etc. We intend to grow this Web site and the "author's community" to something more powerful and easier to use, both for us and for our authors. Therefore, we want to keep you informed so that you can take advantage of new capabilities as we add them. We won't try to sell you anything, but we would like to send you e-mails from time to time to keep you informed. You can opt out of this "author's community" at any time, including the time you submit your article.

    • By submitting an article to GasPredictor.com, you grant us a nonexclusive and worldwide right to publish your article on our Web site. We may choose not to publish it, or not to publish it right away, but you have granted us that right.
    • By submitting your name as the "author's name," which may or may not be your real name, you grant us the right to publish that name on our Web site by way of attribution. Since this is a publicity tool for you and your Web site, we suggest that you use your real name as you use it on your Web site. For example, if you identify yourself on your Web site as "Billy Jones," you should probably not use "William D. Jones, Jr." on your article.
    • You may optionally include your Web site address with your article, and you are encouraged to do so. If you do, we may choose to make your "screen name" a clickable link to your Web site. The intent here is to allow you to use your article as a way to gain exposure and traffic to your Web site. We offer this option as a service to you.
    • You may optionally include up to two links to pages on your Web site within the "resource box" (about the author) section of your article. This information will be published on the Web if we publish the article. We strongly suggest that you include a contact Web page, but not an e-mail address.
    • You should include your e-mail address as a separate field, but we will not publish this e-mail address. We will send you a message indicating whether we intend to publish your article, and/or indicating that we think your article needs some improvements (which we will describe for you). Once these exchanges are complete, unless you have chosen to receive additional updates about our "author's community," we will not retain your e-mail address and we will not send you any additional communications.
    • When you submit your article, you may check the box labeled, "May we retain your e-mail address and contact you with updates ..." This is how you choose to join, or not to join our "author's community." If you check this box, we will send you updates from time to time to let you know about new capabilities we are adding to our article submission and publication services, and inviting you to use them and to submit additional articles. However, we will never use your e-mail address to try to sell you anything, and we will never share your e-mail address or other personal information, other than the contents of your article, with anyone else unless required by law.
