Gas Price Prediction for May 18, 2012

Posted to the Web May 18, 2012, 5:00 AM PDT.

Released to subscribers May 17, 2012, 2:30 PM PDT.

    Change in Futures: -0.043

    Change in 2nd-Lowest Retail: 0.00

    Pressure: -0.107

    Trend for tomorrow: Down

Trend for next 2-3 days: Down

Price range through next business day: $4.018 - $4.099

Recommendation for tonight: Hold off and buy gas tomorrow.

    Notes:

    1. Pressure is moderately downward. Retail prices are likely to go down by 1 to 2 cents per gallon.
    2. Gasoline futures are now down to prices we haven't seen since February 2, 2012. At that time, the average of 2nd-cheapest retail prices among the 12 cities in our national prediction model was $3.461, over 30 cents cheaper than today's average of $3.742. Of course, fatigue factors have come into play in all those weeks of rising gas prices, so don't expect retail prices to fall 30 cents tomorrow. It could happen, but don't expect it. (Roughly translated, "fatigue factors" means "consumers have gotten used to higher prices so there's no need to reduce them.")

Check back after 5:00 AM PDT Monday, 5/21/2012, for our next prediction, or subscribe to receive tomorrow's gas prices in your e-mail this afternoon!

Subscribers to our e-mail newsletter get the predictions at about 2:30 PM Pacific every business day. This gives you the advantage of having the predictions before everyone else, and in time to decide to buy gas tonight! Save a few cents per gallon each time you fill up.

Why Subscribe? Gas prices are just going up and up, so what's the big deal about a prediction? Prices are simply going up and there's nothing you can do about it, right? Not really! Once in a while, prices halt in their upward trend, and even move downward. That is your opportunity to save money on gas. If you know when prices are going to fall, you can make sure you have room in your tank to take advantage of it. Or if you know prices are going up tomorrow, you can fill up before they rise. And that's what GasPredictor.com is all about! Subscribe today, while you still can!
